Beginning Monday, Beacon Credit Union will host a Covered With Love donation drive for the DeKalb Community Impact Corp.

Credit union members and nonmembers may drop off donations during Beacon’s regular business hours. The drive will continue through Friday, Feb. 10.

Covered With Love care kits are provided to the DeKalb County and Noble County Department of Child Services offices and are given to children removed from dangerous home situations. In many instances, the children are unable to keep personal possessions during the crisis, Covered With Love care kits try to provide comfort by giving each child something of his or her own.

Last year, the DeKalb Community Impact Corp. distributed more than 100 kits in DeKalb and Noble counties.

“Beacon Credit Union believes it is extremely important for us to support local nonprofit agencies in our local communities and those agencies which help children like the Covered With Love Program are extra-special,” said Dawn Aschleman, Beacon branch operations manager.

“We are excited to partner with Beacon Credit Union and provide the DeKalb community an opportunity to help support children in great need,” said Brad Harris, executive director of DeKalb Community Impact Corp.

Items needed for the kits are soap, shampoo, combs, brushes, socks, underwear, flip-flops, deodorant, body wash, hair accessories, hair care products, small toys (such as Matchbox cars), dental floss, journals, coloring books, pens, pencils and crayons. Items should be new.
